How We Celebrate the Spring Festival
The Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is the most important traditional holiday in China. It is a time for families to gather, share joy, and exchange wishes for the coming year. This year, like every year, my family and I celebrated the festival in our own special way.
On New Year's Eve, we had a big dinner that usually included a variety of dishes, each with its own symbolic meaning. We also lit firecrackers to drive away bad luck and welcomed good fortune. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and excitement as we stayed up until midnight watching the Spring Festival Gala on TV.
New Year's Day was marked by early morning visits to relatives and friends, where we exchanged red envelopes filled with money, known as "hongbao," as a symbol of good luck and blessings. Children were especially excited during this time as they received red envelopes from elders.
